"The scenes of torture and AK-47s held against the back of heads and the back of mouths conjure up images of DiCaprio's Middle-East thriller Body of Lies while most of the dialogue smacks of Judd Apatow. A stunning ending puts you through seven stages of shock over how you feel about all that came before and what should come after. It is a wild ride, one that speeds by proving that the ancient art of theater can hold its own in the age of Funny or Die." - Andrea Chalupa, The Huffington Post
I think this production of this amazing play would make an excellent debut on Broadway, and dare I say it, eventually a cinematic release. It is definitely one of the best I've seen, marrying drama and humor in the best possible way. - Sarah B. Roberts, Adventures in the Endless Pursuit of Entertainment Blog
Director Montserrat Mendez has taken Kozak’s clever and strong script and directed it with a subtlety that confines it to a very small space but never forgets to give it room to breathe. Or room to laugh. Yes, this is a very serious situation indeed, but the three men find a calming presence in hearing each others voices but also finds that humor keeps them from going stir crazy while captured in complete darkness (they stay blindfolded for most of the play). The three main soldiers each give out great performances...all three actors have a knack for completely embracing a scene to find the dark comedy in the truth. The Birthday Boys has a good amount to say, and doing it with dark humor instead of all terror and strife makes it a very different, and special, piece indeed. - Mateo Moreno, Big Vision Empty Wallet
